Our Dietitian’s Choice
"We are always listening to our pupils. And they have informed us that they would like to be able to opt in/opt out for a vegetarian alternative on a day-by-day basis, whilst not necessarily signing up to a 100% vegetarian menu.
So why quorn and spinach lasagne? Quorn being lower in saturated fat than beef is good for heart health and is also a good source of protein and fibre. Spinach, being rich in vitamins and minerals, including iron, is a great accompaniment to the dish. This dish is also a good source of calcium (semi skimmed milk in the white sauce and cheese topping). And the lasagne sheets provide carbs for slow-release energy to sustain pupils through an afternoon’s learning. In addition, we will always encourage veg or salad as a nutritious accompaniment."
Sustainable School Meals
Reduced Carbon Emissions - All our dishes have had their carbon emissions analysed by Edinburgh University. This lasagne is responsible for under 1/4 of the carbon emissions of the other lasagne on the menu on this day. A great choice for those looking to make small changes towards a more sustainable future!
More Welsh Produce on our Menus - Both our semi skimmed milk used in the white sauce and our cheddar are Welsh produced, so supporting our local economy and jobs whilst reducing food miles.
