Our Dietitian’s Choice
"Did you know there is a strong link between low iron and poor mood and concentration? It is also thought that there may be a link between a link between low zinc and poor attention and sleep.
Our homemade lasagne is made with both minced beef and quorn mince, and together with the garlic bread makes this choice is a top scorer for the nutrients iron and zinc. It is also a good source of calcium (semi skimmed milk in the white sauce and cheese topping). And, encouraging our pupils to reach their 5 a day, we will always encourage veg or salad as a nutritious accompaniment."
Sustainable School Meals
UK Farm Assured Standards - The main ingredient of any lasagne is beef mince – and we only use quality UK Red Tractor Beef Mince, supporting UK farmers whilst being reassured that this has been produced to independently inspected standards relating to treatment of the animals, food safety and traceability.
Reduced Carbon Emissions - We know that beef mince is high in greenhouse gas emissions (around 32.13 Co2e). So we tweaked our recipe and replaced 40% of the beef mince with quorn mince with a carbon footprint of just 1.29 Co2e - reducing the carbon emissions in this recipe by 39% with just this one simple change.
More Welsh Produce on Our Menus - Both our semi skimmed milk used in the white sauce and our cheddar are Welsh produced, so supporting our local economy and jobs whilst reducing food miles.
