Food waste recycling has increased again thanks to residents taking part in the council’s Keeping Up with the Joneses campaign.

In November 2025, food waste recycling increased by six per cent compared to November 2024, while purple-lidded bin waste fell by nine per cent.

Since September, recycling education and enforcement officers have been delivering Keeping Up with the Joneses booklets and advising residents on reducing purple-lidded bin waste.

Councillor Sue Morgan, Executive Member for Sustainability and Waste, said: "We would like to thank residents for getting on board with the Keeping Up with the Joneses campaign, and recycling more than they have before. Once again, proving to us that they are keen recyclers.

“It’s great to hear from the engagement team that some people who have never recycled food waste before are now giving it a go.

“Food waste has always made up a large portion of purple-lidded bin waste, so we are thrilled to see more of it being put out for recycling."

The engagement and enforcement team will continue monitoring purple-lidded bins and offering advice to households with overfilled bins or extra rubbish bags.

If no changes are made, residents could receive a warning letter and, ultimately, a £100 Fixed Penalty Notice.
