Recycling rates across the borough are continuing to climb thanks to residents getting involved in the council’s Keeping Up with the Joneses campaign.

Latest figures show that in February 2026, food waste recycling increased by 12 per cent and other kerbside recycling rose by 13 per cent, compared to February 2025. Purple-lidded bin rubbish reduced by 0.8 per cent during the same period.

Since September 2025, the council’s recycling education and enforcement officers have been visiting households, delivering Keeping Up with the Joneses information booklets and offering advice to help residents reduce the amount of waste ending up in purple‑lidded bins.

The majority of residents spoken to either use the kerbside recycling service in full or have taken positive steps to increase their recycling.

However, enforcement action has been taken against a small number of households who have continued to put out excessive amounts of purple-lidded bin rubbish.

Since October 2025, officers have issued:

  • Over 500 Stage 1 warning letters
  • 29 Section 26 notices (second warning letters)
  • 2 £100 Fixed Penalty Notices
