ID required to access Household Recycling Centre

Posted on: Monday 18 August 2025

All visitors to Torfaen’s Household Recycling Centre will soon be required to present proof of address before entering the site.

The recycling facility is for Torfaen residents only, but evidence shows that there are non-residents using the site, which increases costs and queue times.

From Monday 1 September, everyone using the site will be asked to show proof of address to ensure fair access for local households.

Visitors will need to show a valid form of identification that confirms their address, such as:

  • A driver’s licence
  • A recent utility bill
  • A council tax bill

By checking visitors really are Torfaen residents, the council aims to reduce waiting times and ensure the site is used appropriately.

Councillor Sue Morgan, Executive Member for Sustainability and Waste, said: “We want to make sure our recycling centre is available for the people it’s intended for – Torfaen residents.

“Reintroducing ID checks will help us manage demand more effectively and improve the experience for everyone using the site.”

“Residents are encouraged to have their driver's license or other ID ready when visiting the centre to help keep things moving smoothly.”
