If you are unsure if you are registered, please check the Household Notice Letter which you will receive in March, or contact voting@torfaen.gov.uk

Senedd changes

From May 2026, the number of Senedd constituencies will reduce from 40 to 16, but each will be represented by six Members. The total number of Members will increase from 60 to 96.

The Torfaen and Monmouthshire constituencies will create the Senedd constituency of Sir Fynwy Torfaen.

The way people will vote will also change.

You will have a single vote and ballot paper, instead of two separate ballot papers.

You will vote for the political party or independent candidate you want to represent you, rather than individual people.

The ballot paper will show the full list of candidates in your constituency, so you can still see who you're voting for.

If a party wins enough votes, they will win one or more seats in the Senedd. If an independent candidate wins enough votes, they will win a seat in the Senedd.

Seats will reflect the percentage of votes each party or independent candidate gets.

The new voting system is called a closed proportional list system.

How to vote

You can vote by post, proxy or in person.

To register for a postal vote application, please contact our elections team via email voting@torfaen.gov.uk or call 01495 762200 and ask for an application form. You must return your application form by 5pm on Tuesday 21st April 2026.

Please note, you will need to re-apply every three years for a postal vote for parliamentary elections and refresh every five years for a Welsh election.

To arrange for someone to vote on your behalf – also known as a proxy vote – please apply online at www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote by 5pm on Tuesday 28th April 2026.

If you vote in person, you will receive a poll card which will tell you which polling station to attend. You will only be able to vote at this station. You do not need your polling card to vote.
