School Admissions - Primary (Reception)

Overview

There are seventeen English medium, four Welsh medium and five faith-based schools within Torfaen managed by the council.

Governing Bodies of voluntary aided/faith schools within Torfaen have responsibility for their own admission arrangements and application forms must be requested directly from the school and returned to the school of your choice.

Eligibility

Children normally start primary school at the start of the school year in which their fifth birthday falls (i.e. 1 September to 31 August inclusive).

Apply

In-year transfer

For admission to primary school outside the annual Reception admissions round, you will need to make an in-year transfer application.

September 2026

The closing date for placements in September 2026 has now passed, however you can still submit a late application.

To make a late application for September 2026 please download and complete the Primary School Admission Form and return it to school.admissions@torfaen.gov.uk
