School Admissions - Secondary
Overview
There are four English medium, one Welsh medium and one faith-based schools within Torfaen managed by the council.
Governing bodies of voluntary aided/faith schools within Torfaen have responsibility for their own admission arrangements and application forms must be requested directly from the school and returned to the school of your choice.

Eligibility
Children normally transfer from primary to secondary school at the start of the school year in which their twelfth birthday falls (i.e. 1 September to 31 August inclusive).
Apply
In-year transfer
For admission to secondary school outside the annual admissions round, you will need to make an in-year transfer application.
September 2026
The closing date for placements in September 2026 has now passed, however you can still submit a late application.

Late 2026 admissions
To make a late Secondary application for September 2026 please download and complete the Secondary School Admission Form and return it to school.admissions@torfaen.gov.uk
