Overview

There are 15 English medium, four Welsh medium and two faith-based nurseries managed by the council, alongside several private and voluntary sector nurseries.

Eligibility

A child can start nursery from the beginning of the term following their third birthday if there are places available.

Places are allocated on a part-time basis (morning or afternoon sessions only), five days a week.

Rising 3s

Children who turn three between 1 September and 31 December can apply to start nursery in January.

Children who turn three between 1 January and 31 March can apply to start nursery in April.

Nursery admission

Children who are three between 1 April and 31 August, and those who did not apply for a Rising 3 place, can apply to start nursery the following September.

There is only one application window for nursery and Rising 3 placements.

2027 admissions

The closing date for placements in January 2027, April 2027 and September 2027 has now passed, however you can still submit a late application.

  • Decision date for on time applications - 18 September 2026 (September 2027 4 year olds and January 2027 Rising 3s)
  • Decision date for on time applications - 29 January 2027 (April 2027 Rising 3s)

To make a late nursery application for 2027 placements please download and complete the Nursery School Admission Form.

Any late application forms received will be considered on a monthly basis in line with the Admissions Policy.

Please note: We will not accept a nursery application without proof of date of birth.

Late 2026 admissions

The closing date for placements in January 2026, April 2026 and September 2026 has now passed, however you can still submit a late application.
