A bus dedicated to helping people interested in working in the care sector set off from Cwmbran today.

The We Care Wales bus will spend six months touring Gwent as part of a recruitment drive between the local authorities and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

To coincide with World Social Work Day, the bus spent its first day in Morrisons car park, in Cwmbran, where members of the public were able to speak to Torfaen Council staff and local care providers about  training and job opportunities.

Jason O’Brien, Strategic Director for Children and Family Services at Torfaen Council and Chair of the Gwent Regional Workforce Board, said: “The We Care Wales bus is an exciting initiative for Gwent. We’re thrilled to be able to bring together a wide range of social care employers and show citizens the diverse and rewarding roles the sector has to offer.

“There is no better way of finding out about careers in social care than coming along and having a chat with those who are already working in the sector.”

The bus has been funded by Gwent Regional Partnership Board, in partnership with We Care Wales and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.
