A new recruitment bus that looks to help people take their first steps into the social care sector, is touring Gwent this year.
Coinciding with World Social Work Day, the bus will set off on Tuesday 21 March, stopping outside Morrisons supermarket in Cwmbran between the hours of 10am and 2pm.
Visitors to the bus will be able to speak with a number of social care employers, including Torfaen Council, to start their careers in care.
It is anticipated that Gwent will need hundreds more people to work in social care roles by 2030 if it is to keep up with the growing demand for care services and provide support for communities across the region.
A wide range of rewarding roles will be on offer and people will get the chance to meet and talk to people who already work in Gwent’s social care sector.
For those looking to return to work after an extended period away, or for those new to the world of work, employability advisors will be on hand to help build confidence and learn new skills.
The newly branded bus has been funded by Gwent Regional Partnership Board, in partnership with WeCare Wales and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.
Jason O’Brien, Strategic Director for Children and Family Services at Torfaen Council and Chair of the Gwent Regional Workforce Board, said:
“The WeCare Wales bus is an exciting initiative for Gwent. We’re thrilled to be able to bring together a wide range of social care employers and show citizens the diverse and rewarding roles the sector has to offer.
“There is no better way of finding out about careers in social care than coming along and having a chat with those who are already working in the sector.”
It is hoped that it helps raise the profile and demonstrate the full breadth of social care career pathways available locally.
The recruitment bus will be on the road until September 2023, visiting venues across Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen.
