The Summer Reading Challenge - 'Ready, Set, Read!' - kicks off this July in Torfaen libraries!

Children aged 4-11 can visit any Torfaen library and sign up for the challenge from Saturday 8th July.

They will be invited to read six or more library books of their choice throughout the summer, collecting lots of fun rewards along the way.

Any books, including audio books and eBooks, that are borrowed from any Torfaen library counts towards the challenge. The best part? Participation is completely free!

Don’t worry if you are not a member of the library – you can register for a card at any time.

The Summer Reading Challenge is presented by The Reading Agency - a charity promoting the benefits of reading among children and adults in the UK - and is delivered in partnership with libraries and the Youth Sport Trust.

Councillor Richard Clark, Torfaen Council Executive Member for Children, Families and Education, said: “Children taking part in the challenge not only have fun but also return to school in September as more fluent, confident, and happy readers. By maintaining their reading habits over the long summer break, they ensure their literacy skills continue to flourish.”

To mark the launch of this year's Summer Reading Challenge, Cwmbran Library will be hosting a fun morning filled with crafts and activities on Saturday 8th July, from 9:30am.

Look out for upcoming summer holiday events in the libraries, including story and song sessions and Lego clubs.

All three libraries will also be offering free story and craft sessions for 5 - 10 year olds throughout August.
