World Book Day

It’s never too late to pick up a new book and start your next chapter.

In light of this year’s World Book Night, Torfaen Adult Community Learning will be offering a selection of free books to collect from their centres during normal opening hours.

The free books have been supplied by The Reading Agency – a national charity whose mission is to help people overcome life's challenges through the power of reading.

The limited number of books available include Feel Good Food by Joe Wicks, Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams and Queenie Malone’s Paradise Hotel by Ruth Hogan.

Essential Skills Manager at Torfaen Council, Carole Murcutt said,

“We here at Torfaen Adult Community Learning aim to inspire residents to read more.”

“Our Essential Skills provision aims to provide affordable learning opportunities for people looking to improve their reading skills and increase their confidence – whatever their starting point.”

“World Book Night gives us the opportunity to reach more people and share our love of books.”

68,000 books will be gifted to organisations across the country to give to people who don’t read regularly for pleasure or have limited access to books.

To access your free books, pop along to one of the centres at either Croesyceiliog CEC, Pontypool CEC or the Power Station in Cwmbran, while stocks last.

Want more to read? Don’t forget about Torfaen Libraries fantastic online platforms such as Borrowbox and LibbyApp – all you need is a library card!

If you’re not already a member at your local library, you can sign up via the Torfaen Council website.

If you want to take your reading further, you could consider joining one of the many essential skills or GCSE English courses available through Torfaen Adult Community Learning.

This year, World Book Night takes place on Sunday 23 April. For more information about how you can get involved visit World Book Night.
