Community Grants in Partnership

A new partnership has been developed to increase funding opportunities for Torfaen’s Third Sector.

"Connecting Torfaen" is bringing together Torfaen County Borough Council, Torfaen Voluntary Alliance, Bron Afon, Pobl and Aneurin Bevan Health Board to create a joined up approach to how we administer small grants schemes to community groups throughout the borough.

The aim is to increase the amount of funding available that helps develop activities in our communities that encourages community ownership, develops independence and makes a lasting difference to people’s lives.

The partners have a variety of grants available:

Community Resilience Grants

Funded by the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund, Torfaen County Borough Council are launching 3 grants schemes:

  • Community Activity Grant between £200 and £3,000 – revenue only
  • Community Development Grant up to £40,000 with combined capital and revenue funding. The closing dates for first round of both is 22nd April 2024.   • Food Resilience Grants £500 up to £15,000. Open on Monday 18th March 2024 with closing date for applications of 5pm on Monday 22nd April 2024. For more information and/or to request an application form, please email the Food Resilience Team on food4growth@torfaen.gov.uk

To be eligible for this funding your project will build strength within the community. The project must engage the wider community and increase engagement.  Projects can include initiatives that help communities with the cost of living, such as advice and information, projects that aim to improve health and wellbeing or better access to services.

Food Business Grants

Funded by the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund, Torfaen County Borough Council are also launching the second round of the Food Business Development Grants. Which add value to their produce, diversifying their current operations, and creating new, sustainable food networks and supply chains. There are two levels of funding available:

  • Level 1 - £500 - £5000
  • Level 2 - £5000.01 - £25,000

The Food Resilience Programme has received £991,426 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, aims to increase the amount of locally produced affordable food and find sustainable ways of tackling food poverty through the Sustainable Food Partnership.   

Torfaen Voluntary Alliance

Funding obtained through the Regional Partnership Board, enables TVA to facilitate a small grants scheme across Torfaen.  The funding aims to support locally driven initiatives and activities aligning with the Regional Integrated Funds priorities, focusing on enhancing community-based care for prevention and intervention at a local level.  The fund provides support across all the population groups, with a maximum individual project value of £20,000.  Application process with be open in April 2024.  For more information contact the TVA team on 01495 365610 or email funding@tvawales.org.uk

Bron Afon

Bron Afon also run a grant scheme "Pitch4Pounds", where community groups can apply for up to £1000 to support projects that tackle:

  • Food poverty
  • Loneliness and isolation
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Environment or sustainability
  • Children and young people

Our registered charity, Pobl Trust, is committed to raising funds and allocating grants to individuals, community groups and projects to improve the quality of life and create opportunities for people and communities in the areas where Pobl Group works.
