Keep Torfaen Tidy

The council has the power to issue on-the-spot fines of £100 to anyone caught dropping litter. This includes cigarette butts and items such as apple cores and banana peel. Some litter items can take take hundreds of years to decompose.

Anyone caught not cleaning up after their dog has pooed can also be given a £100 on-the-spot fine.

What the council does?

• Empty 700 litter bins every week
• Clean satellite shopping centres every day
• Cleanse every street once a fortnight
• Litter Free Zones – our Litter and Fly-tipping Officer is working with businesses to create Litter Free Zones. This means that these organisations take responsibility to regularly litter pick and clear up an area of land around their property for the benefit of their customers and local area. There are currently 3 Litter Free Zones in Torfaen and we are looking for businesses and organisations who may be interested to grow this number
• Litter Picking Hubs – We work with Keep Wales Tidy and local community centres and businesses to provide Litter Picking Hubs. You can access and use free kit so you can litter pick in your local area. You can find details of your local hub below. Please check hub websites or Facebook pages for opening times

What you can do?

• Pick up litter and put into the nearest litter bin.
