School Admissions - Nurseries

Overview

There are 15 English medium, four Welsh medium and two faith-based nurseries managed by the council, alongside several private and voluntary sector nurseries.

Eligibility

A child can start nursery from the beginning of the term following their third birthday if there are places available.

Places are allocated on a part-time basis (morning or afternoon sessions only), five days a week.

Rising 3s

Children who turn three between 1 September and 31 December can apply to start nursery in January.

Children who turn three between 1 January and 31 March can apply to start nursery in April.

Nursery admission

Children who are three between 1 April and 30 August, and those who did not apply for a Rising 3 place, can apply to start nursery the following September.

Apply

There is only one application window for nursery and Rising 3 placements. For placements in January 2025, April 2025 and September 2025:

  • Online applications will go live on Monday 10 June 2024
  • Closing date for applications - Monday 15 July 2024
  • Decision date - Monday 16 September 2024 (September 2025 and January 2025 Rising 3s)
  • Decision date - Friday 24th January 2025 (April 2025 Rising 3s)

To make a late nursery application for September 2024 please download and complete the Nursery School - 2024 Admission Form and return it to school.admissions@torfaen.gov.uk
