Road Safety Enforcement

This is primarily the remit of Gwent Police. Torfaen Council HTE Group work closely with Heddlu Gwent Police and wherever possible we endeavour to support and work in partnership with them to achieve our joint objectives.

As the official Highway Authority for the county, the Council has the authority to determine the speed limits and other highway matters such as permanent/temporary traffic regulation orders, highway signage and carriageway markings, general parking issues etc. These are carried out in-line with the relevant legislation applicable to the highway network. Concerns regarding enforcement of general highway regulations already in place is in most cases, a matter for Heddlu Gwent Police who already have existing powers to deal with these issues e.g, obstructive or illegal parking.

Safety Cameras

Safety cameras on all adopted roads in Wales are managed by ‘Go Safe’ the Wales Road Casualty Reduction Partnership. The Go Safe website provides comprehensive information on all matters related to safety cameras and their deployment.
