Close to 1,000 runners have already signed up for this year’s Mic Morris Torfaen 10K, as one of the fastest races in the running calendar returns this summer.

The popular event will take place on Sunday 12 July, with runners setting off from Blaenavon at 9am before finishing in Pontypool Park by around 11am.

Open to runners of all abilities, the race attracts participants from across the UK and beyond, with all entrants receiving a medal and event merchandise.

Proceeds from the run will support the Mic Morris Memorial Sporting Trust Fund, helping young athletes in Torfaen to achieve their sporting ambitions.

Road closures in place

To ensure the safety of runners, a number of temporary road closures will be in place along the route:

  • Blaenavon to Abersychan (A4043/B4246 junction): 8:00am – 10:00am
  • Abersychan Old Road to Hospital Road: 9:00am – 10:30am
  • Hospital Road to Park Road (Salvation Army): 9:15am – 10:45am

Side roads will remain open, but vehicles will not be permitted on the race route during the event. Emergency services access will be maintained at all times.

Ben Jeffries, Health, Sport and Fitness Officer at Torfaen Council, said:

“With almost 1,000 runners already signed up, this year’s event is shaping up to be another fantastic day. Whether you’re chasing a personal best or taking part for the first time, it’s a great opportunity to be part of one of the fastest 10Ks around.

"We’ve worked hard to reduce disruption for residents by shortening road closures, with marshals in place throughout to keep everyone safe. Thank you to the community for your continued support in making the event such a success.”

Residents with essential travel needs, such as hospital appointments, holidays or caring responsibilities, are advised to contact Torfaen Council as early as possible on 01633 628936.
