Become a Nature Steward

Step into the great outdoors and take part in something rewarding, social and truly meaningful by becoming a Nature Steward in Torfaen.

This growing volunteering initiative is helping people across the borough reconnect with nature while playing a hands-on role in protecting local wildlife and green spaces.

Rooted in the spirit of The Torfaen Deal, the programme is all about people coming together to take pride in their area, support one another and create a healthier, greener future for everyone.

Becoming a Nature Steward isn’t just about conservation, it’s about feeling good too.

Whether it’s planting trees, exploring local nature reserves, or helping wildlife thrive, every session offers something different, uplifting and enjoyable. The handful of volunteers already signed-up say it’s a great way to clear your head, boost your mood and share a laugh with new people along the way.

What you can get involved in:

  • Hands-on wildlife surveys
  • Creating habitats for plants and animals
  • Managing and improving local nature reserves
  • Tree planting and landscape care
  • Tackling invasive species

Sessions take place every Thursday, 10am – 12:30pm, in beautiful green spaces across Torfaen, with locations shared in advance each week.

No experience? No problem. Everything you need, including training, tools and PPE, is provided.

Nature Stewards is open to everyone, whether you want to come along regularly or just drop in when you can. It’s a simple way to give back, feel better, and be part of a community effort that truly matters.
