Play Service VANS

Torfaen Play Service is hitting the road this summer with two brand-new mobile play vans, bringing fun and creativity to children across the borough.

The vans are jam packed with play and sports equipment, loose parts, giant jenga and will include arts and crafts.

They will be popping up in a neighbourhood near you from next month, turning parks, open spaces and school grounds into exciting play zones.

Henllys Play Park will host the first session on Tuesday 2 June, 4pm till 5.30pm, and will continue each week up until the end of term.

More mobile play dates will be shared on the Torfaen Play Service Facebook page and Connect Torfaen website - http://www.connecttorfaen.org.uk

Julian Davenne, Play Service Manager, said:

“We’re really excited to take our award-winning Play Service out on the road and into the heart of our communities, especially in areas where children don’t always have easy access to opportunities to play.

“Play is how children learn, build confidence and develop vital life skills. By bringing play closer to home, we’re helping children grow, connect and thrive — something that sits at the heart of The Torfaen Deal.”

The new Outreach Play Project was shaped by feedback from children and families through Torfaen’s Play Sufficiency Assessment, which highlighted the need for more local outdoor play opportunities, particularly in areas with limited transport.

The idea was also backed by the Torfaen Citizen Assembly, where residents called for more accessible activities for children and young people.

The project was funded through the All Wales Play Opportunities Grant, which helped transform two council vehicles.

In addition to the mobile units, more than 25 play sessions will run daily during the summer holiday period, for children aged 5–12, supported by trained staff and volunteers.

Extra activities will also be offered to children and young people who need extra support.
