A £250,000 refurbishment is set to begin at Cwmbran Stadium gym in December.

The project, part of a series of improvements funded by Halo Leisure, will deliver brand-new, state-of-the-art fitness equipment, catering for a mix of cardio, resistance, free weights, functional and strength based training.

The upgrade adds extra floor space, bringing the layout to 15,000 sq ft of workout area, complemented by new flooring and a sleek, modern interior design.

To complete these works, the gym will close from 1–5 December, reopening with a bold new look on Friday, 6 December.

During this period, members can use the gym and strength and fitness studio at Pontypool Active Living Centre (PALC).

Scott Rolfe, Halo Leisure CEO, said: “In just a few months, our successful partnership with Torfaen County Borough Council has delivered significant wins for the local community to be more active, more often.

“This exciting transformation is part of our ongoing commitment to providing top-quality facilities and experiences for our members.”

Cllr Fiona Cross, Torfaen Council's Executive Member for Communities, said: "This investment is about more than just upgrading facilities, it’s about tackling health inequalities and supporting the wellbeing of our residents.

"By working closely with Halo Leisure, we’re creating spaces that encourage people to improve both their physical and mental health. These improvements demonstrate our commitment to making Torfaen a healthier, more active community for everyone.”

Earlier this year, Halo Leisure reopened the much-loved Hydroslides at PALC, following a £12,000 investment, which involved inspection and servicing of the structure, pump systems, and access points, along with critical water hygiene treatments.

Snowsport Torfaen has also reopened at Pontypool Ski Slope in readiness for the Winter season following an extensive upgrade to the misting system, and a new pipework and pump system, improving the slope surface.

Other investments come in the form of essential maintenance and upgrades at Fairwater swimming pool, with it expected to reopen early 2026.

All other facilities at Cwmbran Stadium will remain open as normal during the gym closure.

Halo offers a range of membership packages including discounts for young people, people aged 66 and over, those registered disabled and people receiving certain benefits.
