Hundreds of runners have already signed up for this year’s Mic Morris Torfaen 10K.
The race, renowned for being one of the fastest in the running calendar, attracts runners from far and wide, and will take place on Sunday, 13 July.
Runners will set off from Blaenavon at 9:00am and will be expected to cross the finish line in Pontypool Park by 11:00am.
All participants will receive a medal and a selection of merchandise for taking part in the event.
Proceeds from the race will be donated to the Mic Morris Memorial Sporting Trust Fund, directly benefiting aspiring young athletes in Torfaen.
Road Closures
To ensure the safety of runners, the following sections of road will be closed at the times listed below:
- Blaenavon to Abersychan (junction of A4043 and B4246): 8:00am – 10:00am
- Abersychan Old Road to Hospital Road: 9:00am – 10:30am
- Hospital Road to Park Road (Salvation Army): 9:15am – 10:45am
Side roads will remain open, but no vehicles will be allowed on the race route during the event. Emergency services will have access at all times.
Ben Jeffries, Health, Sport and Fitness Officer at Torfaen Council, said:
“Whether you're a seasoned runner, keeping fit, or just starting out, this is your chance to be part of one of the fastest 10Ks around. The race attracts runners from across the globe — not just club athletes, but everyday people embracing the challenge..
“This year, we’ve worked to shorten road closures to minimise disruption, and marshals will be on hand throughout the route to assist residents and ensure everyone’s safety.
"Information about the event will be posted for residents living on the affected roads, with each section of the route reopened as soon as it’s safe to do so. Thank you for your patience and support in helping to make this event a success.”
If the road closures impact any critical travel such as hospital appointments, a holiday or caregiving responsibilities, please contact Torfaen Council on 01633 628936 at the earliest opportunity.
