Council cemeteries service consultation

Posted on: Friday 22 March 2024

A public consultation has been launched focusing on the way the Council manages its cemeteries service.

The council is responsible for managing Blaenavon, Cwmbran, Panteg and Llwyncelyn Cemeteries.

The survey aims to identify areas for improvement following a report to the Cleaner Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee, which highlighted an increase in complaints last year.

You can take part in the survey via our Get Involved Torfaen site or at one of the following drop-in sessions:

  • Tuesday 2nd April, 11am-2pm, at the meeting at Blaenavon World Heritage Centre.
  • Wednesday 3rd April, 11am-2pm, at Llwyncelyn Cemetery, Cwmbran.
  • Thursday 4th April, 11am-2pm, at Panteg Cemetery, Pontypool.

Each face-to-face session covers all four of Torfaen's cemeteries, so you can attend any session to take part in the consultation.

The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and closes at 5pm on Friday 12 April.

Councillor Mandy Owen, Executive Member for Environment, said: “While our team responds to all complaints, this is an opportunity for the service to identify strategic solutions to common issues or problems.

"We welcome all feedback and although we have to be realistic about what can be achieved in the current economic climate, we need to ensure the service fulfils its duties for our residents."

Information about cemetery policies has been updated on the council's website to make it clearer for residents, in line with one of the scrutiny committee's recommendations.
