Olivia and Myles Taylor, a sister and brother duo from Pontypool, have been making waves in the world of Brazilian Jujitsu, thanks to the support of the Torfaen Mic Morris Trust.
Olivia, 15, and Myles, 11, who are pupils at West Monmouth School, both won Gold at the 2023 Elite World Jiujitsu Championships in England.
They have both been successful in acquiring several grants through the Torfaen Mic Morris Trust, helping to cover the costs of competition entries, equipment for training and travel and accommodation.
Olivia’s impressive track record includes being a four-time Elite European champion, multiple British champion, and the reigning Elite World Champion.
Myles boasts multiple gold medals and holds the titles of the 2022 Elite European champion and the current Elite World No Gi champion.
They both train at Amos Martial Arts in Mamhilad, Pontypool, where a variety of mixed ability classes are run throughout the week.
Unfortunately, Olivia recently faced a setback due to a bad ankle injury, but she’s back in full training after several months on the sidelines.
Olivia said: “We are so grateful to the Mic Morris Trust for their support. They have made it possible for us to pursue our passion and achieve our goals. We hope to inspire other young people to get involved in sport and enjoy the benefits of physical activity and healthy living.
“None of my achievements would have been possible without the support and guidance from my amazing head coach Ashley Amos, who has produced multiple champions out of his gym.”
Olivia has since been promoted to orange belt after being undefeated at yellow belt and winning all her bouts by submission.
As she completes her GCSEs this summer, Olivia aspires to become a Jujitsu training instructor at Amos Martial Arts, further contributing to the sport she loves.
Myles, who has been promoted to yellow belt following his latest win, said: “Thank you for all the support it is really good to know we have support from Torfaen Mic Morris Trust”
Myles also boxes at Pontypool Boxing gym, winning two fights in 2023 under head coach Mark James and also represents his district in rugby in Italy winning the Paese tournament with his team.
Young athletes aged between 11 and 21 who live in Torfaen and participate in any sport at a regional or national level can apply for a Mic Morris grant.

“All the proceeds from our Mic Morris Trust events are used to provide grants for aspiring young athletes like Olivia and Myles. One of them is the Torfaen 10k run, which this year, takes place on Sunday 14 July.”
The Mic Morris Memorial Sporting Trust was established in 1988 in memory of Mic Morris, a former Welsh international runner who died of a heart attack at the age of 23.
