South Wales Literature Development Initiative

South Wales Literature Development Initiative LogoSouth Wales Literature Development Initiative is a creative writing partnership between Literature Wales and the local authorities of Torfaen, Neath Port Talbot, Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly and Newport. The partnership works with groups and individuals who have traditionally not been part of the mainstream writing world even if they are actively engaged in blogging, texting, writing letters to newspapers, or creating poems in response to national and international celebrations and tragedies.

Projects have employed a wide range of experienced and accomplished authors and community artists including: Mike Church, Francesca Kay, Michael Harvey, Scott Quinnell, Ric Hool, Patrick Jones Carol Ann Duffy and Gillian Clarke to name but a few.

Torfaen Writing Squad is also support by Torfaen Arts Development in collaboration with Torfaen Libraries. This squad has recently been merged with Newport Writing Squad and now affords opportunities for our young writers to experience new places of interest across the two boroughs to enjoy fun, stimulating creative writing workshops with Wales based authors. Torfaen libraries also run a number of reading groups who meet regularly and enjoy visits from local authors such as Phil Carradice and Roy Noble.
