Food Business Development Grant

These grants aim to support local food businesses in diversifying their produce, added value projects, enhancing their operations, exploring new production techniques, and contributing to developing a sustainable food economy.

Torfaen County Borough Council has a great opportunity for established food businesses to apply for grants up to £15,000.

Who can apply?

• Established food businesses based in Torfaen with a minimum of 6 months trading
• Food businesses with a Food Hygiene rating of 4 or above

Criteria

Businesses will need to demonstrate how their project contributes to one or more of the following Torfaen Good Food Priorities.

1. Our Health
2. Our Community
3. Our Jobs
4. Our Education
5. Our Future

All applicants will be required to submit a relevant Business Plan to support their application.

While this grant is open to all food businesses, it does not support projects that are solely aimed at increasing the production of products high in fat, salt and sugar.

Eligible Activities

We can support a range of projects including:

• New/Improved buildings
• Training and development
• Equipment, including IT
• Marketing
• White goods
• Product development

Other items may be considered

Project Costs

Capital & revenue funding, max £15,000.

All grants require a minimum of 20% match from the applicant.

How does it work?

Those applying to be a part of this scheme will need to bring an innovative idea that supports the development of your food business and demonstrates that there are clear benefits and sustainable outcomes for the project.

You will be responsible for the management and running of the project. You will be required to evidence all spend towards the project.

Application Timescales

Applications should be completed and submitted along with a supporting Business Plan by 5pm on Monday 9^th June 2025. Decisions will be made by an external panel. All projects must be completed by the 31^st January 2026.
