This #VolunteersWeek, we're celebrating our wonderful volunteer army! Come along and meet some of those making a difference in our communities - and find out how you can get involved - at our first Torfaen Deal Village
There's just a week to go until the first big event of the summer - the Cwmbran Big Event!
Thousands of people are expected to descend on Cwmbran Boating Lake, on Saturday June 13, for the extravaganza, organised by Cwmbran Community Council.
The event will include family fun, sports activities, nature projects, an artisan market , food stalls and live music between noon and 5pm.
There will also be the first-ever Torfaen Deal Village, where you can find out more about the council's new way of working alongside communities and partners like Torfaen Voluntary Alliance and Halo Leisure, to improve people's lives across the borough.
There will also be...
- A community lounge, where you can meet volunteers
- Community-run activities, including a walking bus to the site from Cwmbran Stadium and volunteer litter pick
- Health and well-being activities by Halo Leisure
- NEW council apprenticeship opportunities
- Pop up youth club with activities
- Children's library and activities
- Recycling and reuse advice
Cllr Fiona Cross, Executive Member for Communities, said: "We're hoping our Torfaen Deal Village will help to bring our new way of working to life for people. It will be a chance for residents to speak to teams and groups and get ideas of how they can make positive change in their communities.
"I'd like to thank Cwmbran Community Council for allowing us to bring our Deal Village to the Cwmbran Big Event, and for the organisations who will be joining us on the day, including Torfaen Voluntary Alliance, Halo Leisure, Circulate and Wastesavers."
Gareth Davies, Cwmbran Community Council clerk, added: "Cwmbran Community Council is proud to lead on a great day out for Cwmbran, the event gets bigger and better every year and feedback tells us that it's an event that the community enjoys and supports, we've added a park and ride this year to make it even easier to attend without having to bring the car."
The park and ride will operate from the bus stop in Asda car park bus and Llanfrecfa Way, between noon and 5.30pm. You can park in any Cwmbran town centre car parks.
The Torfaen Deal Village will be on the South Fields side of the boating lake, near the zip line in the children's play area.
Visitors to the Torfaen Deal Village will get the chance to enter a free prize draw for three months complementary Halo Leisure Membership.
The Torfaen Deal Village will also be at Party in the Park, in Pontypool, on Saturday July 11.
