This #VolunteersWeek, we're celebrating our wonderful volunteer army! We're working to harness the power of volunteering as part of the Torfaen Deal. If you'd like to thank someone making a difference in your community, why not nominate them for a community award...
The sixth annual Torfaen Community and Volunteer Awards are open for nominations.
The awards are sponsored by organisations and local businesses to celebrate the incredible contribution made by individuals, groups, and volunteers and recognise the impact they have in our communities.
Last year, 100 people and groups were nominated - including Bois Y Bryn, who won the Arts, Culture & Heritage award, and Monmouthshire, Brecon and Abergavenny Canals Trust, who won the environmental award.
You can nominate a person or organisation for one of 12 awards:
- Adult Volunteer
- Young Volunteer
- Trustee of the year
- Sports Volunteer/Group
- Health Volunteer
- Environmental Volunteer/Group
- Heart of the Community
- Business of the Year
- Arts, Culture & Heritage Volunteer/Group
- Children & Youth Group
- Community Leader
- Neighbour of the Year
Aimi Morris, Chief Executive of Torfaen Voluntary Alliance, which organises the awards, said: "Every day, volunteers across Torfaen give their time, skills and energy to support and strengthen their communities.
"Their kindness, contribution and community spirit help make Torfaen a better place to live and are vital to delivering the Torfaen Deal.
"These awards are an opportunity to celebrate the individuals, groups and organisations who commitment makes such a difference, while inspiring others to get involved and play their part."
Cllr Fiona Cross, Executive Member for Communities, added: "Volunteers are the backbone of our communities. They help to bring people together, support those in need and improve our environment.
"The work led by our communities and the army of volunteers, supports the support provided by the council and other support services."
Nominations for the Torfaen Community and Volunteer Awards close on Friday July 31. Three finalists will be selected for each category by a judging panel and announced in September.
The awards evening will take place at the Parkway Hotel on Friday October 16.
Torfaen Council is sponsoring the Neighbour of the Year award.
