Inspectors have praised pupils at Ponthir Church in Wales Primary School for their exemplary behaviour and willingness to play an active role in school life.

In a report published this week, the Estyn inspectors said the school has an inclusive and caring ethos, based on strong, respectful relationships, which helps pupils to engage with staff, other pupils and learning.

They highlighted in particular the school's pupil leadership groups, which they said were a strong feature of the school and enabled pupils to contribute to decision-making and lead purposeful activities.

Headteacher Aisling O’Mahony said: "I am absolutely thrilled that Ponthir Church in Wales School has received such a positive inspection outcome, reflecting dedication and commitment of our entire school community.

"This success is a testament to our fantastic pupils, talented staff, supportive governors and families, who work together every day to create a nurturing environment where children thrive.

"We are incredibly proud of this achievement and look forward to building on these strengths."

The inspectors said the school provided a broad and balanced curriculum, which is enriched by engaging learning experiences, including outdoor learning.

They said the majority of pupils made good progress in literacy, numeracy and digital skills. They made one recommendation: to improve pupils' Welsh oracy skills.

Cllr Richard Clark, Executive Member for Children, Families and Education, said: "Congratulations to the staff, pupils and parents for an excellent Estyn report. Reports like this highlight why regular school attendance is so important because it could not have been achieved without each and every member of the school."
