Nearly 100 warning letters have been issued since the council’s camera enforcement car began operating in the borough.
The vehicle, equipped with CCTV, has been patrolling for the past two weeks to identify cars parked illegally issuing warning letters.
A total of 43 warning letters have been issued to drivers for parking on bus stops, 15 for stopping on school ‘Keep Clear’ markings, 11 for parking in no-waiting zones, and 4 for parking on zig-zag lines.
As the warning period is coming to an end, drivers are being reminded that from Monday 17 November that anyone parking illegally outside schools, on bus stops, or on zig-zag lines will receive a penalty charge notice.
The automatic penalty charge notice will be £70, which will be reduced to £35 if paid within 14 days.
Councillor Mandy Owen, Executive Member for the Environment, said: ‘’Even though a large number of warning letters have been issued we are hopeful that drivers will think twice about parking illegally given the negative impact it can create for road safety especially around areas such as schools”
According to an Executive Member report in July, the car will target dangerous and obstructive parking around schools, bus stops, zigzag lines, loading bays, noloading/unloadingrestrictions and double yellow lines with kerb markings.
Blue badge holders will continue to be allowed to park on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours, if loading restrictions are not present and it's safe to do so.
