A joint operation has been carried out between Trading Standards officers and Gwent Police targeting the sale of illegal cigarettes.
Officers seized quantities of counterfeit tobacco and cigarettes in Cwmbran and Pontypool
The man was cautioned and further investigations will take place which could result in prosecution.
The officers found 20 50g pouches of hand-rolling tobacco and 10 packets of cigarettes which did not have the legally required health warnings or tax markings on the packaging.
Daniel Morelli, Head of Public Protection and Environment, said: “The trade of illegal tobacco and cigarettes creates a cheap market for these products which may appeal to children and young people. It also undermines the good work being done to stop people smoking, and the illegal tobacco trade often has links to wider criminal activity.
“This joint operation between the Council and Gwent Police demonstrates our shared commitment to protecting public health and the economy from the dangers of illegal tobacco. Our Trading Standards Team will continue to take tough action against those involved in this illegal trade.”
Inspector Lee Stachow, Gwent Police, said: “Our neighbourhood poling team regularly works with partner agencies, like Torfaen County Borough Council’s trading standards department, to provide protection and reassurance to our communities and to tackle illegal activity in the county.
“Any illicit items found during these joint operations will be seized by the relevant authority, and those responsible will be held to account.
“We're committed to increasing safety in our communities and protecting vulnerable people from harm.
"If you have concerns about licensed premises operating illegally in your area, please report to trading standards.”
