Come along to a Torfaen Deal roadshow!

Posted on: Thursday 11 December 2025

A series of roadshows will be held next week to encourage people to take part a consultation about plans for a Torfaen Deal.

So far, two People's Panel meetings have taken place in person and online, and more than 1,500 people have visited out Get Involved Torfaen consultation page about plans for a new way of working between the council, residents, communities and partner organisations.

Next week, residents will be able to speak to Executive Members and senior officers about the plans at the following locations:

  • Monday 15 December: Pontypool Active Living Centre 10am-3pm
  • Tuesday 16 December: Blaenavon Resource Centre 9am-noon
  • Wednesday 17 December: Pontypool Indoor & Outdoor Market 10am-4pm
  • Thursday 18 December: Cwmbran Stadium 10am-3pm
  • Thursday 18 December: outside JD Sports, Cwmbran shopping centre 3pm-7pm
  • Friday 19 December: Blaenavon World Heritage Centre 10am-3pm

The Torfaen Deal aims to reduce health and social inequalities by ensuring the council and communities work together to identify local need and develop solutions.

The Deal aligns with the council's commitment to be Wales' first joint Marmot Council alongside with Blaenau Gwent Council.

Council Leader, Anthony Hunt, said: “We already have fantastic examples of local community groups taking positive action to work with the council to improve lives and facilities where they live. The Deal aims to engage more residents and groups in helping their communities become more resilient.

"Demand for services like social care has surged and councils simply haven’t got the funding to keep doing things the same way. To plug the gap, councils have frequently cut wider discretionary services – often the very things that prevent poor health and reduce long-term demand.

"In Torfaen, we want to be innovative because we believe things can be better for our communities.

"The Deal is a new way of working to build trust and shared responsibility between the council, residents, and organisations. By investing in prevention and empowering our communities, we can tackle the root causes of inequality and unlock the full potential of Torfaen together.”

You can get involved in the conversation by coming along to one of the roadshows or visit Get Involved Torfaen before December 31.

Your comments and views will be used by a Citizen Assembly to form the details of a Torfaen Deal, which will be put out for further consultation in February.
