Phase one of the council’s road resurfacing project, known as the Better Roads campaign, has now been completed.

Over the past year 38 roads have been resurfaced thanks to an additional £6.4m investment to improve local roads over the next five years.

The investment follows a survey of highways which found that while most classified main roads meet national standards, many minor roads require repair.

Cllr Mandy Owen, Executive Member for Environment, said: “Thanks to the hard work of our contractors and the support of the community, we have successfully completed phase one.

“There will be another round of resurfacing next year, continuing our commitment to maintaining and improving the borough’s infrastructure.

“Details of the roads included in the next phase will be shared in early spring.”

The work is being funded by £4m in additional capital investment and £2.44m from the Welsh Government's Local Government Borrowing Initiative. It will run alongside the council’s annual highways maintenance programme.

Weekly updates on roads scheduled for resurfacing will be shared via the council’s Weekly News bulletin and social media – search #BetterRoadsTorfaen.

You can also sign up for Good to Know emails for updates on road closures and emergency works.
