More than 100 female entrepreneurs and business leaders attended the Torfaen Women in Business event last night.

The evening at the Parkway Hotel, in Cwmbran, was organised by Torfaen Council's Business Engagement Team and featured guest speakers, networking opportunities and a mini Christmas market.

The event also included a raffle in aid of Cyfannol Women's Aid charity, with prizes worth hundreds of pounds donated by local companies.

It was the first time Julianna Beavan and Katie Summner, from The Mellow Patch Company, in Pontypool, had attended a networking event.

Julianna said: "We launched our business four months ago and we wanted to see what a networking event was like. We've really enjoyed it - everyone has been very warm and welcoming."

Kirsten Tuck, solicitor with Everett Tomlin Lloyd and Pratt, in Pontypool, said: "I've been to a number of these events and they are always very enjoyable. I am really pleased they have started up again and it's been so nice to see so many new faces."

Among the speakers were Kelli Aspland and Laura Waters from Solar Buddies, based in Cwmbran, and former Eden Project Managing Director Gaynor Coley, from Cwmbran.

Councillor Joanne Gauden, Executive Member for Economy, Skills and Regeneration, opened and closed the evening, which raised £1,600 for the charity.

She said: "The event was an opportunity for guests to share their successes, aspirations and best practices, as well as the challenges and frustrations they face as business women.

"It was also an opportunity to hear from Cynfannol Women's Aid about the amazing work they do to support those who need it most.

"The positivity and energy in the room was really inspiring and we can't wait for next year's event."

It's been four years since the last Torfaen Women in Business was held due to Covid. This year's event was funded by the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund.
