Business growth support

A course aimed at helping small businesses take the next step starts this week.

The Business Growth Bootcamp will focus on helping businesses and individuals who are self-employed to grow their businesses and become more resilient.

Starting on Thursday June 26, participants will get advice on defining business purpose, identifying a growth roadmap and implementing change.

The fully funded course has been organised by the council's business engagement team and will be run by business mentors Welsh ICE.

Cllr Joanne Gauden, Executive Member for Economy, Skills and Regeneration, said: "Sadly, more than half of new businesses in the UK fail within the first three years.

"Through our County Plan Well-being Objectives, we've committed to increasing the number of entrepreneurs who are still in business in Torfaen after the first couple of years.

"This will help drive broader economic growth, increase the diversity of businesses in the borough and job opportunities for local residents."

Tom Phillips, from Welsh ICE, said: “Too many Welsh businesses become stuck and don’t know what to do to improve, or how to move forward. If your business is in this position, this bootcamp will give you clarity on the steps you need to take to grow your business to the next stage.”

The weekly Business Growth Bootcamp will be held on Thursdays, between 5pm and 8pm, until July 17.

It will be held at the Parkway Hotel, in Cwmbran, and include a buffet.

Places are free but are limited - for more information, businessdirect@torfaen.gov.uk.

The programme is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
