Jacquelin Chapman has managed to reverse onset type-2 diabetes after taking part in the #IfyougoIgo health and fitness programme for women.
Jacquelin, 40, from Cwmbran, was diagnosed as prediabetic in 2021 and was struggling with her weight and overall well-being.
She joined the 10-week programme in July 2022 and has since lost five stone in weight and seen a huge improvement in her health.
The free #IfyougoIgo programme features a range of exercise and educational sessions which are designed to help participants lose weight, improve their fitness levels, and manage some health conditions.
Spearheaded by Torfaen Sports Development, in collaboration with Torfaen Leisure Trust, it offers local women the opportunity to participate in weekly group sessions, personal training sessions, and receive nutritional and mental wellbeing advice.
Jacquelin said: “I have reduced my blood glucose level from 46 pre-diabetic levels to 31, the lowest possible level it can be. I feel like a new person, as it has given me the confidence to go out and enjoy new things with my children and live a happier, healthier life.”
Women on the programme can also access Torfaen Leisure Trust classes and gyms and are supported to join local community sports clubs.
Megan Parker, Torfaen Sports Development Officer at Torfaen Council, said: “We are thrilled to see the positive impact that #IfyougoIgo is having on women's health and wellbeing in Torfaen.
“#IfyougoIgo has supported so many women to make positive lifestyle changes and cemented new habits and attitudes towards exercise which has led to long term behaviour change. Jacquelin's success story is a testament to the power of exercise and education in managing conditions such as diabetes, and we encourage anyone who is struggling with their health to consider joining the programme.”
Nicola Doble, Personal Trainer at Torfaen Leisure Trust, said: “I couldn’t be prouder of what Jacqueline has achieved. Jacquelin is the perfect role model for people who want to kickstart their fitness journey and work toward their goals!”
