A group of entrepreneurs has taken part in a new course dedicated to supporting young business people in Torfaen.
Aged between 18 and 30 years old, the entrepreneurs have taken part in the eight-week programme, organised by Torfaen Council's business engagement team.
It’s the first time Torfaen’s 5-9 Club has focused on young people, covering topics such as sales and marketing, finance and pitching ideas.
Yvette Viner, 30, from Cwmbran, owner of Yvette Viner Jewellery, said: "I set up my business making jewellery from precious metals in 2019 but it was more of a hobby.
"This course has given me the confidence and excitement to really build my business."
Tomorrow, the entrepreneurs will get the chance to showcase their ideas to business representatives at a special event at the Parkway Hotel in Cwmbran.
Among the business ideas are plans for a children's play cafe, vegan beauty therapy, bar and hospitality venues, physical literacy for children, editing and publishing and crystal jewellery and self-care products.
Councillor Jo Gauden, Executive Member for Economy, Skills and Regeneration, said: "I am really looking forward to hearing about their exciting business ideas and being inspired by their passion and motivation.
"These young people will be business owners and employers of the future and as a council, we look forward to supporting them as their businesses take off."
Hope Weyman, from business innovation company Welsh ICE, added: "Collaborating with Torfaen Council on the 5-9 Club for young entrepreneurs under 30 has been incredibly rewarding.
"The synergy within this mini ecosystem creates a network of mutual support and guidance, showcasing the untapped potential and innovation.
"Welsh ICE is proud to contribute to the development of entrepreneurial skills in Torfaen, shaping a dynamic business landscape at the heart of the Valleys."
The 5-9 Club has been funded by the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund and includes an annual membership to Torfaen Business Voice.
The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025. The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.
