Torfaen’s annual Santa Appeal has once again exceeded all expectations, with thousands of gifts donated to bring festive cheer to children and young people across the borough.

Thanks to the generosity of local residents and businesses, more than 300 children and young people, who might otherwise have missed out this Christmas, will receive gifts in time for the big day.

Now in its 20th year, the appeal collects gifts and food donations for children supported by the council’s Children’s Services, Torfaen Young People’s Support Service (TYPSS) and Families First teams.

This year, donations have also helped create 25 hampers filled with food and home essentials, alongside 60 pre-made hampers, which will be gifted to young people aged 15+ who are living independently.

Cllr Richard Clark, Torfaen Council’s Executive Member for Children, Families and Education, said: “I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our local residents and businesses who have supported this year’s appeal so generously. Your kindness ensures that hundreds of children and young people will enjoy a brighter Christmas.

“A special thank you also goes to the fantastic range of community hubs that acted as donation points, making it easier for people to contribute. This collective effort truly shows the strength of our community spirit.”

Abigail Vaughan, Team Manager for Children and Family Services, added: “On behalf of our Social Workers and all the children and young people who'll receive gifts through the Santa Appeal, I'd like to thank the public for their incredible generosity.

“Your kindness brings joy and makes a real difference to families during a challenging time of year. We are truly grateful for your support in making Christmas special.”
