Torfaen Council is extending an invitation to residents to take part in a survey that will help ensure that its new approach to working with communities is delivered in the most effective and impactful way.
The Communities Strategy, which sets out an initial three-year plan, has been designed with a focus on communities, well-being and prevention, placing them at the core of how services can be delivered.
The survey, which can be completed anonymously, is available on the council’s Get Involved Torfaen website and will remain open until Tuesday 2 April, 2024.
It set out a new approach that looks to:
- Understand the needs of individual communities.
- Focus on well-being and the early identification, and prevention, of issues that impact well-being.
- Better align council services with existing community-based provision.
- Support and develop community-based organisations and services.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, volunteers and organisations across Torfaen rallied to provide local services to support vulnerable community members, building upon existing networks.
Many of these groups continue to operate today, possessing a deep understanding of the strengths and needs of their local communities, highlighting one way in which the community can respond strongly to local needs.
Cllr Fiona Cross, Executive Member for Communities, said: “The new ‘Resilient Communities – Torfaen Community Strategy’ aims to understand the needs of individual communities, identify issues impacting well-being at an early stage, prevent issues from escalating or even happening in the first place.
“It also outlines how council services will be better aligned with existing community-based provision and provides support for the development of community-based organisations and delivery.
“To help the council understand the strengths and needs of the local community, I would encourage residents to complete the survey and help us apply the strategy in the most effective way.”
This is a golden opportunity for residents to make their voices heard and contribute to empowering communities across Torfaen. Don’t miss out!
