The Climate Ambassadors Network was set up by Torfaen Council in November 2021 to help plan for the borough to become net carbon zero by 2050. Since then, the group has formed a residents' action group and they are looking for new members.
Climate Action Torfaen is a community-led voluntary group seeking to build bridges for community action that moves us all closer to a climate and nature friendlier Torfaen.
Climate Action Torfaen is a constituted community group, established in April this year. We currently have 16 active members and are always looking to welcome new members to grow our passionate, fun and enthusiastic community.
Our biggest achievement to date is creating a space for like-minded individuals to come together every month to chat all things sustainability in Torfaen and to collaboratively work together to find solutions to the issues that we deeply care about.
We also reach a consensus on a range of matters important to us and bring this forward at Climate Ambassador meetings where we engage with Torfaen Council to meaningfully improve current approaches to the local authority’s climate change commitments.
We dedicate one hour of our monthly meetings to doing good and some of our achievements include:
- Positively influencing Torfaen Council to set up a compost offer at the Recycling Centre in New Inn
- Supporting Cold Barn Farm by clearing and tidying their community garden area
- Supporting Forgeside RFC community garden by weed clearing
- Hosting a free fermentation workshop
- Making Christmas puddings for Tasty Not Wasty’s Christmas Day dinner
- Hosting a pop up outside Zero Waste Torfaen to offer food growing and seed saving advice
Our recent work includes developing a Road Map for the group which focuses on responding to the climate and nature emergency locally through the wonderful world of food!
