There will be a host of activities in Torfaen next week as part of #GreatBigGreenWeek, which starts this Saturday.

Head4Arts will be celebrating trees by running Cariad Coed events in Pontypool Park, with support from Torfaen Council, Torfaen Leisure Trust and Torfaen Museum.

Torfaen's Climate Ambassadors will also be holding two information sessions at the Zero Waste Shop in Cwmran, as well as organised walk in Blaen Bran Community Woodland.

Bethan Lewis, Assistant Creative Director for Head4Arts, which has organised the Cariad Coed programme, said: "Cariad Coed highlights the benefits of trees and puts a spotlight on the natural beauty of Pontypool Park.

"We hope the free activities will encourage people to take notice of their local environment and inspire them to take positive action to help look after it.”

Great Big Green Week, which runs from Saturday 24 September to Sunday October 2, is a UK-wide initiative that celebrates community action to tackle climate change and protect nature.

The Caried Coed programme starts with Arty Parky on Saturday 24 September, where people of all ages will be invited to use natural materials, such as conkers, leaves and twigs, to create a giant land drawing.

This event, which has become an autumnal favourite in Pontypool Park will take place earlier than normal this year and will have a special Green Week twist.

There is varied programme throughout the week, including how to make paint from organic materials, taking part in an outdoor exercise class, getting messy at Wild Tots or going on a guided nature walk through Pontypool Park.

Local primary schools will also be getting involved through the Cariad Coed Daily Challenge in which pupils will complete arts activities that celebrate trees each day during Green Week.

The Cariad Coed Family Fun Day on Saturday 1 October will include storytelling, natural crafts and tree walks along with a chance to listen to the rainforests of Wales via a QR code created by environmental sound artist Cheryl Beer.

There will be an opportunity for reflection during the closing event, Evergreen Art, on Sunday 2 October where creative activities inspired by nature will be used to support people in bereavement.

For full listings and details on how to secure your free space at each of the activities please visit Head4Arts website: www.head4arts.org.uk
