Following the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we would like to provide you with some information linked to the week or so ahead.

Books of Condolence

There are three official books of condolence which will be at Civic Centre Pontypool, Cwmbran Library and the Blaenavon World Heritage Centre.  The books of condolences will be available to the public during these venues normal opening hours.  These will be available to sign up until the day after Her Majesty’s funeral at which point the books will be sent to The Royal Palace.

We would encourage anyone unable to sign these books to sign the online book of condolence on the Royal Family website.

Pontypool Park’s memorial gates (opposite Civic Centre) has been identified as a site for the public to place flowers if they wish.

Periods of public silence will be announced by the Palace and we will share that information as soon as possible.

On Sunday afternoon, following the regional proclamation in Newport a local proclamation will be read out in the Civic Centre, Pontypool by the Leader of Torfaen Council, Cllr Anthony Hunt at 4pm.

You can watch the proclamation via the Council’s webcasting pages and it will be screened live on the council’s Facebook page.

The flags at Civic Centre, Pontypool, are currently flying at half-mast and will stay at half-mast until after Her Majesty’s funeral.

In recognition of the new Sovereign, Union flags will be flown at full-mast from the time of the Principal Proclamation at St James’s Palace on Saturday until one hour after the Proclamations in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales on Sunday, after which flags will return to half-mast in mourning for the death of Her Majesty The Queen.
