The Leader of Torfaen Council, Councillor Anthony Hunt, said: “It is with true sadness that we receive the news that The Queen has passed away at Balmoral.
“The Queen has been admired around the world for her sense of duty and devotion to a life of public service. She was an extraordinary woman who lived an extraordinary life; and she gave extraordinary commitment to this country.
“The flags outside Civic Centre will be lowered to half-mast and the council will open a book of condolence in the Civic Centre, Pontypool from 9am on Friday morning.
"The book will be open from 9am until 5pm, Monday to Friday, and will remain open until 5pm on the day following the funeral.
“On behalf of Torfaen Council I will send our deepest condolences to The King and the Royal Family.”
