Torfaen Play Service ‘Play in the park’ sessions have returned this spring, bringing families together to engage in play outdoors.

Delivered by trained playworkers and volunteers, they offer children, parents and grandparents the chance to take part in a range of games and fun activities at parks across the borough.

Sessions are open access, which means that families can just turn up, within the specified time, and get involved.  All sessions run weekly from 3.30pm – 5.00pm and take place at the following locations:

  • Monday – Oakfield Flower Gardens, Llantarnam Road, Cwmbran
  • Wednesday – Pentwyn Park, Pentwyn Road
  • Friday – Glansychan Park – Abersychan

Some activities include parachute games, team, arts and crafts, nature trails and sport.

Torfaen Play Service Manager, Juliane Davenne, said:  “In a recent consultation we did with children in Torfaen, as part of the local authorities Play Sufficiency Assessment, it highlighted that local parks and play areas are children’s favourite places to play.

"Play in the park is a great opportunity for children and families to get outside and play at some of our fantastic parks we have available to us here in Torfaen. This not only can help improve wellbeing, but maybe help improive family life at home and offers a safe place to spend time together.”

The summer months will see even more ‘Play in the park’ sessions popping up across the borough in local parks, play areas and open spaces.
