School pupils aren’t the only ones getting their GCSE results today. Adult learners in Torfaen are also finding out if they made the grade.

This year, 36 adults did GCSE English and Maths through the Council’s adult learning service with 77% achieving grades A* to C in English and Maths.

The courses are giving people nationally recognised qualifications to help increase their job prospects, to make progress at work or access further study and  will help improve skills for everyday life.

Accredited courses are also available in Essential Skills courses in English and Maths from beginners up to level 2. The courses aim to build learners’ confidence to prepare them for GCSEs.

Executive Member for Economy, Skills & Regeneration, Joanne Gauden said: “This year’s results are testament to the hard work and dedication of our adult learners and our tutors in the Adult Community Learning Service. We’re so proud of our learners celebrating their amazing achievements today. Not only is it proof of their commitment to succeed, but it also reflects the high-quality teaching and learning that takes place in our 3 adult education venues.  Our tutors can help people work out their starting point and help choose the best course for them.”
