Libraries' Summer of Fun

Posted on: Thursday 4 August 2022

Summer is about to get even more fun!

As part of the Torfaen Summer of Fun, Torfaen Libraries will be hosting a wide variety of free activities throughout August, including science workshops, slime making, sessions on creating Lego robots and story and crafts. Some sessions are already fully booked so be quick and book your space today.

Children can also borrow new Gadgeteer book boxes, aimed at budding scientists and engineers, AND there’s still time to take part in our annual Summer Reading Challenge.

Emma Day, Torfaen Libraries, said: “There are lots of free activities going on in Torfaen this summer, and we are thrilled that the library service can offer even more activities than usual, thanks to the extra funding that has been made available to us from the Welsh Government.

“We are looking forward to seeing everyone get stuck into the sessions, and can’t wait to see everyone’s creations.”

You can find out what activities are taking place in your local library on the Connect Torfaen website or by following Torfaen Libraries on Facebook.

The Welsh Government-funded Summer of Fun programme is aimed at children and young people aged 0-25. Find out more about what’s on offer here.

The activities are also supported by The Reading Agency, which is co-ordinating events in libraries across Wales this summer, and providing the Gadgeteer book boxes.

Don’t forget that the annual Summer Reading Challenge is back, and this year it’s more inventive than ever! Get involved today by visiting your local library to sign up for this year’s challenge which is themed ‘Gadgeteers’. Each child will receive a Gadgeteers collector poster, collecting special stickers as they read to complete their poster along with extra rewards. There is even a mini challenge for very little readers.
