Access to the Shell Grotto is by walking only and involves steep climbs over uneven ground and is unsuitable for the less abled and young children. Originally built as a summerhouse for the Hanbury family, the Shell Grotto is a listed Grade II building. Its simple exterior gives no clue to the wonderful interior - walls and ceilings decorated with shells, whilst the floor depicts flower and heart shapes made from bones.
