Torfaen Biodiversity Partnership

The Torfaen Biodiversity Partnership is one of 24 similar biodiversity partnerships in Wales who coordinate the implementation of the local action plans. The partnership in Torfaen is made up of interested individuals and officers from the local authority, Natural Resources Wales, Welsh Water, Gwent Wildlife Trust and other partner organisations. The co-ordination of partnerships in Wales is overseen by the Wales Biodiversity Partnership

All these partnerships were formed as a direct result of the UK Government signing up to the Convention on Biological Diversity at the Rio Earth Summit in 1996. All signatories to the convention were obligated to produce national and local plans. Some individual businesses and organisations also produced their own plans

Torfaen Biodiversity Partnership is in the process of producing a new action plan to ensure it remains fit for purpose within the new era of sustainable development, ecosystem services and natural resource management. .A number of pre-consultation workshops were held across the county borough in 2013 and the draft consultation on the Biodiversity Action Plan has been available through the Torfaen 'My Say' website.
