Torfaen Playscheme hand out 3,000 reusable bottles
This summer, Torfaen Play Service are doing their bit to help improve the local environment and reduce their carbon footprint by handing out 3,000 reusable drink bottles.
Next round of weed spraying in the borough to start
On Monday 12 August (weather permitting) Complete Weed Control (South & Central Wales) Ltd will be starting the second round of spot treating weeds on public footways and car parks using their cutting edge technology, the Weed-it, throughout the Torfaen on Council and Bron Afon Community Housing.

Pontypool based gaming business gets off to a flying start
Based in George Street, Pontypool, Torfaen, Duke's Gaming first opened its doors in March 2019, by Luke Durham, gaming enthusiast of over 20 years and experienced retail manager with well-known brands such as 'GAME' and 'Mamas and Papas'. A few months on, and the hobby turned business, is going from strength to strength, offering a place to play and buy a host of hobby and card games such as Warhammer 40,000, A Song of Ice and Fire, Bolt Action, Dragon Ball Super Card Game, and Pokémon Trading Card Game.

A food delivery firm was ordered to dispose of £2500 worth of sandwiches last month after food hygiene officers from the council discovered they had been transported from London in a broken refrigerated vehicle.

Enforcement officers now issuing fines
At the beginning of July our new civil parking and environmental enforcement officers were busy issuing warning parking tickets to raise awareness of civil parking enforcement (which came into action on 1 July). However, they are now formally issuing fines (known as Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs)) to those who have been ignoring parking signs and lines, and issuing fines for environmental crimes such as littering.

Third Enterprise Week a huge success with pupils maknig over 1K profit
A joint profit of £1102.70 was made by pupils who took part in this year's Enterprise Week .Schools made a range of products from palm oil free soap, environmentally friendly bags to outdoor decorations which were sold in Pontypool Indoor Market last week. Today, on National Refill Day (Wednesday 19 June) the council is pleased to announce the installation of a free-to-use Refill water station at Pontypool Civic Centre. Easily accessible to the public, the water station is positioned near the customer services desk by the front door. All you need to do is bring your own reusable water bottle.

Changes to food waste caddy liners
From this week Torfaen residents will see a change in their food waste caddy liners. A change in the way the borough's food waste is recycled now means that residents can reuse bread bags or similar as food waste caddy liners. Caddy liners will still be provided, but will be made of recycled plastic (for those who want to use them).

Help shape the activities and new facility being planned for the Pontymoile canal basin
The Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal Adventure Triangle project has identified the Pontymoile canal basin as an important development hub, which can offer new leisure activities for local people and visitors. The aim is to offer canal related activities and access along the canal corridor to the wider countryside. Improvements planned will include a new café, activity space, car parking, toilets and showers.
