Children and Families

The Children and Families Directorate has been created to raise education attainment and help children, young people and families to thrive. 

Jason O’Brien is the strategic director for Children and Families. 

The service is divided into two sections: 

• Education service 
• Children’s Social services 

Education Service 

Andrew Powles is the Director of Education Services and has responsibility for: 

• Education management service supporting schools 
• Education Welfare Service 
• Additional Learning Needs provision 
• Youth and Play Service 
• Cleaning and Catering  

Children’s Social Services 

Jacylyn Richards is the Head of Children’s Services and has responsibility for: 

• The children’s social work team
• Adoption services
• Foster care team
• Torfaen Young People’s Support Service
